Beyond Secrets

Book Review No. 16 -

Book Name - Beyond Secrets
Author - Alka Dimri Saklani
Publisher - Blue Rose Publishers
Pages - 220

The Story Unfolds :

Main Characters -
1) Noel
2) Nidhi
3) Appu

Blurb:
Noel is a counselor who risks his career for volunteering in an orphanage. Nidhi is an engineering student on the surface, but deep down a broken girl in search of some unanswered questions. Appu is a sweet little orphan, unaware of the cruelties of the world. Despite being miles apart their stories interweave in Aashiyana- the orphanage. Their little journey together changes their lives in a way they never imagined.
One recurring nightmare, one expected phone call, one stolen diary, many lies and secrets, and the calling from the past are just the highlights. And when they depart, they are not the same anymore. They didn't hurt each other, it was a game of destiny. Will they ever be able to rediscover themselves and more importantly, will their paths ever cross again?
"Beyond Secrets" is a novel with layers of suspense and different nuances of relationships and one question that can't have just one answer: how long does it take for a scar to heal?

This book is a story of love, life, patience, faith, hope, sadness, feelings, emotions and truth. One thing is for sure that lie cannot sail smoothly forever, it has to come down in front of the boat name "truth". Secrets can be hidden, but when it gets revealed, it creates a tsunami of emotions and sadness. Reading this book, i can feel the pain, hurt, love between noel and nidhi.

Things i liked the most-

1) The Nature of lead characters i.e Noel and Nidhi. Noel has a very helping nature and also was a emotional person. He could not see any person sad and tries to bring smile in his/her face.
Nidhi has a very large heart. She does orphanage work, as it is her own home still after knowing nothing about the orphanage.
2) Clear and crisp writing.
3) Emotional connect with the readers.
4) How a 'diary' can become a bridge for someone to cross the hurdle.
5) Good suspense build up.
6) Plot is interesting, language is simple.

My rating for the book is 3.8/5
Book cover reveals some secret- 4/5

A Glance At The Unknown

Book review No. 14 -

Book Name - A Glance At The Unknown : Sometimes answers to life come from unusual sources
Author - Sangeeta Shankaran Sumesh
Publication - Notion Press
Pages - 169
Genre - Spiritual Fiction

The Story Unfolds :

Main Characters - Sid, Shiva, Shilpa

Blurb:

A Glance at the Unknown is an intriguing suspense thriller involving murder, rape, extra-marital affairs, treachery and tragedy. Each short story eventually converges into main story.
Sid needs to find answers to his father's untimely and unfortunate death. He goes in search of the infamous goons, veerargals, to avenge his father's death.
Soon he realizes that he's not the only one marching toward the unknown and seeking answers to the mystery of life. Now, in a group of five, sid and his acquaintances-turned-friends, want to unearth the enigma in their life.
They want revenge, do they find it? will they be spared? what was the invisible truth? Were they able to unravel it? Read this captivating story to discover more.

Do you all believe in karma? Ever heard Karma haunts you or Karma is a bitch?
This book is a Perfect example of all karma believers -  ' What you sow, so you reap in this birth and your next birth". Karma has been defined as a boomerang, the farther you throw, the faster it will come back to you. Well I am a big Karma believer.

The book starts with the life's of Shilpa, Shiva, Sid and Sid's Father. Initial chapters was like trailer of a film. There are 4 different stories going on, but slowly and eventually each story converges into the main story. As its a suspense thriller, so revealing much would work as a spoiler.
As it is very well said by the author that 'Why do certain things in life happens the way they happen?
At times, there is no obvious answer. And sometimes it is baseless, meaningless and defies logic."

What I Liked :

1) It is a nicely written story. I could not keep the book down and finished it in one sitting. (Perks of being a CA CS Student)
2) The book has everything from life lessons of karma to knowledge, spiritualism, relationship and many more.
3) Crisp and clear writings.
4) Ability to narrate the story with twists and turns and keeping the suspense element alive.
5) Initial chapters have some violence but gradually it picks up the pace.
6) I could even visualize some scenes, its like a film's screenplay narration.
7) A Message giving book, which can turn your tables back to realize what you do today will have its effect on you tomorrow.

Just wanted to say Beware, Be aware of your thoughts, words and actions as they contribute to shaping your life.

My Ratings -
Book- 4/5
Cover - 4/5

The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck

Book Review No. 11 -

Book Name - The Subtle Art Of Not Giving A Fuck
Author - Mark Manson
Publisher - Harper Collins
Pages - 212

When I first picked up Mark Manson’s The Subtle Art of Not Giving a Fuck, I was a little thrown off. After all, when’s the last time you picked up a self-help book with an F-bomb on the cover?
But, as the subtitle of Manson’s book proclaims, this is a counter-intuitive approach to living a good life”.And that’s exactly what Manson aims to share with his readers.
By flipping our conventional definitions of success, happiness, growth, and truth on their heads, Manson’s manifesto forces us to reexamine what’s really important in our lives. This read is a surprisingly fresh and honest perspective on discovering what we value, finding courage in the face of fear, and embracing our faults as opportunity for change.
Manson begins with an explanation of the book’s namesake: “There is a subtle art to not giving a fuck. And though the concept may sound ridiculous and I may sound like an asshole, what I’m talking about here is essentially learning how to focus and prioritize your thoughts effectively- how to pick and choose what matters to you and what does not matter to you based on finely honed personal values”.
To be clear, not giving a fuck is not the same as being indifferent. As Manson stresses throughout his book, it’s important to recognize that there are a million and one things we can care about in this world. Not giving a fuck is the refusal to spend time involved with things and people that don’t promote our best self. Not everyone has a profound loss or moment that rocks them to the core and gives them a crossroads. So, how do we filter out that which is no longer working for us and focus on what we truly care about?
How we tend to think too much on the matter we should not, and how we do not think on the matter which matters the most.
we take tension on small things, we get scared, we cry, we commit suicide etc, this book exactly tells us the situation of present-day life, how people give a fuck on small things. This book shows us the key to being stronger, happier.
In life, we have a limited amount of fucks, so choose your fucks wisely"
This book will help you think a little more clearly about what you're choosing to find important in life and what you're choosing to find unimportant.
Ultimately, I found myself not wanting to put this book down. Manson’s witty dialogue and brutally honest truth-telling is a breath of fresh air when it comes to prioritizing what we care about in life. After all, it’s really all about “prioritizing better values, choosing better things to give a fuck about. Because when you give better fucks, you get better problems. And when you get better problems, you get a better life.”

My rating for the book is 4.5/5
Book cover is very tempting - 5/5

Ashwatthama's Redemption : The Rise of Dandak

Book Review No. 9 -

Book Name - Ashwatthama's Redemption: The Rise of Dandak
Author - Gunjan Porwal
Publication - Om Books International
Pages - 264

The Story Unfolds :

Main Characters - Many because of its genre..but still to name a few: Rana, Ashwatthama, Vikram, Dandak.

Blurb :
Over a hundred years after the Mahabharata war, an ancient power threatens to destroy the new age of men, by establishing the Age of Terror of the asuras, long believed to be extinct. The only hurdle in its path is Guru Dronacharya's son, the mighty but accursed warrior Ashwatthama, who lost all his powers following Lord Krishna's curse, and who unwittingly finds himself drawn into the quest of the lost bow of Lord Rama - the kodanda.

As ghosts of the distant past, return to haunt him, and the line between friends and enemies blurs, Ashwatthama must fight his inner demons to emerge victorious. He undertakes a perilous journey- across the vast plains of the Ganges, to the snow-capped peaks of the himavant- where the price of failure is a fate worse than death, and death is a privilege not granted to ashwatthama.

Is this part of lord Krishna's great plan ? will ashwatthama be able to regain his lost glory?

Writing -

The writing is simple and lucid. The narration is very precise and focused on the plot, the author has not lost focus during the entire writing and has not gone off the road in describing the sub-plots.
The Humor and new age words + Fiction + mythology + clear and crisp writing have spiced up the thriller very nicely.

Characterization -

The author has penned the friendship of Rana, Vikram, and Ashwatthama beautifully despite having age gaps. They can be termed as old age 3 idiots. Initial chapters have gone just to introduce the different characters and story build up.

What I like :

1) The book starts with Sanskrit shlokas.
2) Use of imagery in the book.
3) Easy to understand language.
4) Story depiction is so beautiful that u can visualize the whole story in your mind.
5) The journey through which the warrior goes are very adventurous and thrilling.

What I did not like :

1) Although I liked the book, somewhere in middle after the first half of the book it lacks pace and becomes a little monotonous.

My last word :

As a debutant author, he has done a commendable job because it takes a great zeal, potential, and effort with research to build such a strong plot and facts and figures. The book has ended at an amazing scene where you keep guessing that whether part 2 is on the cards or not?
It's definitely on the cards. I am damn excited. are you?

My rating for the book is 4.5/5
Book cover looks tempting - 4.5/5
Plot - 4.5/5

"What is a love story"?
Not every love story always consists of a beautiness within. But do all love stories have a happy ending ?? Picture Abhi Baki hai mere dost.

Love can happen within 2 ways:- 'one-sided' or 'both sided'.

This book consists of the reality of love with a unique end. At first loving, someone seems like heaven in the world but sometimes love becomes bitter with time. As rightly said, "love cannot be done forcefully".
we have often heard the saying "Can a boy and a Girl be just friends". This short story exactly explains this, it describes with the beautiful relationship of friendship between Arushi and Arush. How they met at the bus stop and how by each passing day their story changes.

The Girl in Room 105

Book Review No. 3 -

Book Name - The Girl in Room 105
Author - Chetan Bhagat
Publisher- Westland Publications
Pages - 305

The story unfolds:

Main Characters :

1) Keshav Rajpurohit
2) Zara Lone
3) Saurabh
4) Inspector Rana

Now, this one thing is for sure, Chetan Bhagat is India's most trolled writer, yet his books have emerged as bestseller and converted into major motion picture.
This time it will not be different as his latest novel "The Girl in Room 105" has already created enough buzz among the readers and also the trailer release casting Vikrant massy and kashmira Irani have taken youtube buzz.

Expectation : People who got bored of his previous repetetive work can cheer, as this one is slightly different. The genre is changed, shifting from romance to murder-mystery cum thriller.
This book consist of a fresh storyline and a little decent effort in terms of twist. Ofcourse u cannot expect a sherlock or an abbas-mustan twist, but it keeps you engage. This book is basically a crime mystery wrapped with romantic drama flashback. But the suspense grips the readers.

Keshav Rajpurohit is an IIT Passout, who is teaching as an faculty in an IIT Coaching center named "Chandan classes" in delhi. He has a past and still in love with his ex-girlfriend Zara lone. She is from kashmir and a muslim. They broke up 4 years ago due to their parents hindu-muslim war.

The book starts with an ordinary narration but changes quickly when on the eve of zara's birthday, she is found dead in her hostel room no. 105. Zara messages keshav, who is drunk, inviting him to her hostel room no. 105, keshav accepts the invitation and agrees to meet her. He sneaks through the window and finds zara dead on the bed. This one mistake changes his life forever. What unfolds is the series of twist and turn, involving political drama , the hindu-muslim saga, the romantic past, the friendship bond etc.

The one thing i loved about this book is its strong plot.
The overall effect is entertainment, except with few dull moments, the book holds you tight, Does not losses his pace much.

Characters :
There are many characters in this book, as its a murder mystery the characters are defined well. The character development is strong too. Saurabh especially provides you the comic reliefs in between.

What i dont like :
"The Unlove Story" concept. I cannot reveal  much as its a mystery plot. Actually the length of the book is little more over 300 pages. It could have been trimmed.

Overall the book is for all chetan bhagat fan's out there.
u can avoid if u r not a chetan bhagat's fan.

My rating for this book is 3.5/5. The extra .5 for trying a new genre.
The book cover looks really good, it goes for a 4/5.

Everyone has a Story

Book Review No. 2 -

Name of the book - Everyone Has a Story
Name of the author - Savi Sharma
Publisher - Westland Publications
Pages - 175

The Story Unfolds :

Main Characters -

1) Meera
2) Vivaan
3) Kabir
4) Nisha

Savi Sharma, an Indian debut author, has penned an encouraging contemporary fiction in her book, that narrates the stories of four individual souls, each looking or waiting for their own story to begin somehow. As the four protagonists of this book cross the path of each other, it results in not only something magical yet real but also into something heartbreaking and challenging at the same time.

Meera, an emerging author, is waiting for that story to happen and change her life. She believes that this story will not only establish her as an author but also change the hearts of readers.
Vivaan, a banker wants to escape to a real world of hope as well wants to get rid of his past baggage and want to travel the world.
Kabir wants to open a cafe and finally with the help of Meera and Vivaan, opens up Kafe Kabir and fall in love with the customer he met named Nisha.
As the four characters get introduced to each other's lives, their lives do change for the better but they also have to struggle through various downfalls.

The writing style of the author is emphatic as well as poignant as she paces her plot with deep, heartfelt emotions which will move the readers. The narrative is honest. The pace of the book is fast and thus readers will find themselves absorbed into the depth of the story in no time.
As she has rightly said, "everyone has a story, some are written in books and some are confined to hearts". I myself being a CA Dropout could easily understand the motivation required to write and inspire others.

This book is recommended to each and everyone, who is having dreams in their mind, you just need to trigger it and believe in your dreams.
"Everyone has a story, go find yours".

My rating for the book is - 4/5.
The book covers look simple and appealing - 4/5.

Name of the Book: The Rule Breakers
Author: Preeti Shenoy
Publisher: Westland Books
Pages: 321

Story Unfolds :

Main Characters :

1) Veda - An Ambitious girl, who gives up on her dreams for the happiness of her parents, because she did not want to hurt her parents.

2) Suraj - A Attractive, charming and the most chocolaty boy of college, who has an emotional and tragic past. He finds a sweet, caring friend in Veda.

4) Ron - Ron is the character who meets Veda in another country. A foreigner friend, who eventually turns out to be Kanika's friend also. Although a short role, but a very important role.

There comes a situation in everyone's life where you need to break the rules, otherwise, the rule might break you.
The girls rushed inside and found their mother in the kitchen with Paro didi. The delicious aromas of all kinds of savories wafted from the kitchen. They could see that whoever was coming was important, judging by the culinary preparations that were underway.
One of the siblings said 'Ma, why should didi wear a saree?' demanded Vidya.
we are expecting visitors, you both go and change into nice clothes. Veda goes and wear that chiffon saree of your graduation. Wear my jewelry too. I don't want to get married "ma".
But ma- Veda tried to reason with her. But her mother wasn't having any of it.
As rightly said by Preeti Shenoy, "  There are two kinds of people in this world :
i ) Those who follow the rules.
ii ) Those who do not think twice about breaking them.

This book is entirely dedicated to the females of India. For all the girls who want to dream, but could not dream because of the mentality of their parents, that girls should be married after attaining the age of 18.
The book talks about sibling Bonding, Friendship, Trust, Dream etc.

CRUX - The story unfolds about how the main protagonist VEDA steps out of her comfort zone and breaks the rules and rediscover herself.
Preeti Shenoy like always delivers yet again a masterpiece, which is highly recommended to everyone especially the girls.

My rating for the book is - 4.5/5
The conceptualization and narration were a bit long but still, it gives u enough fuel to read the whole book.

The book cover looks really nice, especially the Red Dupatta, which symbolizes the girls fear of left alone. My rating for the book cover is 4/5.
